A large wooden structure used as a partial warehouse and also as a residence was totally destroyed by fire in Hanalei this morning.
There were no injuries reported, according to Kaua’i Fire Department officials.
The 2,000-square-foot building was located on the mauka side of Kuhio Highway, next to Hanalei Center.
The fire started at around 7 a.m., and quickly spread because it involved a wooden structure, KFD sources said.
When firefighters from the KFD Princeville station were called and responded, flames had already fully engulfed the building, but firefighters managed to have the fire under control within minutes of their arrival, said KFD Battalion Chief Russell Yee.
According to Yee, no one was in the building when the fire broke out, and there were no lives or other structures threatened by the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Owned by Princeville Corporation, the property is leased by long-time Hanalei resident Ah Fook Tai Hook, and the residence is rented by Llewellyn Yadao, according to county sources.
