Kaua‘i and Waimea continued their dominance in KIF air riflery with sweeps of Kapa‘a and Island School on Thursday.
The two schools moved to 2-0 on the season for both the boys and girls competitions.
However, after next week Thursday, there will only be two undefeated squads left in air riflery. The Red Raiders and Menehune battle for first-place in Waimea on Sept. 29. Meanwhile, Kapa‘a and Island School will come out of their matches next week, with their first victory of the season. Both teams have yet to garner a win this year.
On Thursday, Kaua‘i’s girls were led by Casey Shimokawa (229), Charissa Riofta (227), Liane Muraoka (219), Maureen Sibolboro (210), and Brittney Pacol (206) for team total of 1091.
Kapa‘a was paced by Brittney Sutton (194), Camden Lorenz (188), Marie Joy Agacid (164), Jenny “Penny” Espina (161), and Heather “Sky” Walker (160) for a total of 867.
The Red Raider boys finished with a total of 1045. Harrison Yamamoto (231), Kendall Kusaka (226), Cody Navarro (220), Jason Cabot (186), and Aaron Braun (182) led the way for Kaua‘i.
Reyn Mossman (217), Travis Toguchi (211), Terrence Cuyo (211), Dereck Bruenecke (183), and Max Vandervort (172) led Kapa‘a, who finished with a team total of 994.
Waimea overpowered Island School in both matches. Brian Martin (238), Jesse Choi (231), Nathan Martin (226), Chris Aguilar (226), and Kale Nakata (221) were the top Menehune boys shooters, who tallied 1142 points.
Island School was led by Kevin Dhorne (247), Rory Marsh (223), Justin Pelton (207), Carlos Maibeth-Mortimer (184), and Erik Talvi (161) for a total of 1022.
Lovely Abalos (239), Sharla Shimono (233), Sheila Ramos (231), Lynnel Wright (231), and Jenny Ueno (218) paced the Menehune girls, who got a total of 1152 points.
Kelsey Ritchie (219), Michelle Woltmon (209), Beatrice Wu (207), Richelle Ridenour (206), and Sky Smith led Island School, who finished up with 1029 points.
