LIHU’E — The Red Raiders got a taste of defeat Saturday as Kapa’a girls opened with a win in five games while the Warrior men pushed to a win in three.
The defending KIF girls champion dropped the first contest 25-23 to fuel the Warriors’ drive that saw the versatility of Amniesty Ragsac and setter Joliann Arzadon couple with the firepower of Poerava Gantt to lead the charge.
Kaua’i came back in game two, and three, but was plauged with errors in games four and five as Kapa’a went on to take the contest (19-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-12).
The boys saw a struggle in game one as Kapa’a teamed behind the whacking of Chaz Galvez and Lyndon Pascual with Nate Berales playing the blocking and versatility role behind the sets of Daniel Rodrick.
That contest finished 28-26, Kapa’a who went on to a 25-13 win in game two, and 25-20 in game three.
Kaua’i High School got strong showing from Ryan Nagaoka’s outside hitting and a versatile performance from Jordan Cox who played the middle and pulled off some back row kills for flavor.
