After the sand settled at the Fourth Annual Kaua‘i Challenge Volleyball Tournament yesterday, it was Mater Dei out of California, who rose to the occasion and took the top spot.
The 18th-ranked team in the country defeated Memorial of Texas for the Po‘okela Championship. In the silver division, Sacred Hearts upended host Kaua‘i High School for the title.
Meanwhile, HBA (Hawai‘i Baptist Academy) won the Onipa‘a division and Maryknoll captured the platinum division crown.
“It was the best tournament yet. Teams from all over want to come next year,” Kaua‘i head coach Rich Roberts said. Roberts also said that the tournament wouldn’t have been possible without the help from parents and volunteers.
The Fifth Annual Kaua‘i Challenge Tournament is already taking shape and should surpass the success of the past four challenges.
