Big volleyball tournament digs Kaua‘i

Kaua‘i High School will host the Fourth Annual Kaua‘i Challenge Girls’ Volleyball Invitational, today through Saturday.
The field consists of 16 teams from all around the country and state. The teams competing are Roosevelt (defending champions), Pearl City, Radford, Molokai, Kealakehe, Hawai‘i Baptist Academy, Maryknoll, Le Jardin, Sacred Hearts, Kaua‘i, Kapa‘a, Waimea, Mater Dei, Corona Del Mara, and Notre Dame-San Jose of California, and Memorial High from Texas.
Today and Friday, matches will be played at Kaua‘i High School’s gym and on Saturday, matches will also be held at Kapa‘a High School’s gym, in addition to the Raiderdome.

Ed Ho Swim Meet postponed
Due to problems at the Waimea High School swimming pool, this year’s Ed Ho Memorial Swim Meet will be postponed until further notice.
“This is the second year that the County has had problems keeping the pool operational during the summer months,” Ed Ho Swim Meet coordinator Eric Nordmeier said.
The County of Kaua‘i was unable to fix the pool in time for the 31st annual event, sponsored by the West Kaua‘i Lions Club.

Hanalei Canoe Club kicks off long races
Hanalei Canoe Club will host it’s long-distance 6-man outrigger canoe races on Saturday, August 13.
The races will start and finish at Black Pot Beach Park in Hanalei.
The women and mixed teams will start at 8 a.m. on an out and back course with the men’s race to follow.

Kalawai baseball meeting
The Kalawai Youth Baseball Club will be conducting its last membership meeting for the season at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Kapa‘a Pop Warner looking for coaches

Horseshoe pitching flys to Anahola
The Anahola Horseshoe Club with the Hanalei Horseshoe Pitchers will host a sanctioned mixed singles horseshoe pitching tournament on August 20 at the Anahola Horseshoe Courts.
The tournament will be a singles round-robin cancellation scoring format. Cash prizes, plaques, patches, and a potluck lunch will be available after the tournament finishes.
