Ricardo M. Ramos
Ricardo M. Ramos of Hanama‘ulu died on June 27, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 82.
Born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Nov. 25, 2005, he retired with the Lihue Sugar Plantation as a mobile irrigation worker.
He is survived by his wife: Estrella Ramos of 60 years; three sons: Elson (Cris) Ramos, Billy (Carol) Ramos, George (Kathleen) Ramos; two daughters: Vicky Ramos and Arleen Ramos; one sister Adelina Flores of the Philippines and one brother; Demetrio (Eusebia) Ramos of Hanapepe, 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grand-children.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday, July 1, from 8 a.m to 9:45 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Kapaia.

Raymond Napoleon
Raymond “Braddah” Kaiponohea Napoleon of Kapa‘a, died June 24, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 25.
Born May 27, 1980, in Lihu‘e, he was a waiter for Aloha Diner.
He is survived by his father: Raymond Kaipo (Lovey) Napoleon; mother: June “Dolly” Chang; four siblings: Jaclyn “Jackie” (Kalai Kaina) Napoleon, Sunny Te’Moani Chang, Christian Chang III, Tia Keiki Napoleon; grandparents: Albert Lum of O‘ahu, Loretta Lum of O‘ahu, and Shigeru Kiyabu of Kaua‘i; and two nieces, Brooke Fujihara and Kodie Ray Kaina.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 2, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Kahu Wayne Vidinha. Cremation to follow.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Randall Matsumoto
Randall “Randy” Y. Matsumoto of Lihu‘e, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 24, 2005, at the age of 44.
Born in Lihu‘e, on March 9, 1961, he was a van driver with the State of Hawai‘i.
He is survived by his wife: Alison; two sons: Jason Matsumoto and Aaron (Alicia Phillips) Matsumoto; daughter, Karen (Daytan Nagao) Matsumoto of Lihu‘e; parents, Shigeru and Marilyn Matsumoto of Lihu‘e; brother, Lance Matsumoto of Lihu‘e; maternal grandmother, Toshie Hada of Lihu‘e; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, at Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor Ramp. Casual attire is suggested.

Richard Masao Doi
Richard Masao Doi of Hanapepe died June 25, 2005, at the age of 78.
Born June 9, 1927, in ‘Ele‘ele, he attended ‘Ele‘ele Grammar School, and graduated in 1945 from Waimea High School, where he was senior class vice-president and co-captain of the football team. During his high school summer months, he worked as a field laborer at McBryde Sugar Company, picked pine at Kaua‘i Pine Company, and was a trayboy at Kauai Pine Cannery. He was also employed by the county of Kaua‘i as a fireman. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in February, 1947, his father found employment for him as an office clerk for Kauai Commercial merchandise division. Because he was getting paid only 75 cents an hour, he asked his dad if he could be transferred to the stevedore division, where he worked for 6 1/2 months. In September, he went to Utah to help his brother, Wallace, and opened a soda fountain shop and also attended the University of Utah.
He graduated with high honors in 1951 from Springfield College and earned his Master’s Degree at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. and took graduate courses from the University of Hawai‘i and Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i to qualify as a high school counselor.
He taught for 35 years at Waimea High School as a PE, health and math teacher; was a coach and athletic director and also retired as a senior counselor at Waimea High School in 1986.
On July 11, 2003, he and his wife Sadie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
His hobby was fishing. Upon retirement he enjoyed spending quality time and establishing a long and caring relationship with granddaughters Julie Ann and Chelsea.
Preceded in death by his parents, Yutaka and Kiyono Doi, and brothers Wallace and Herbert; he is survived by his children, Stanley Doi and Steven and Eleanor Doi; grand-children: Julie Ann and Chelsea Doi; brothers: Mansfield (Marge) Doi of Kailua, O‘ahu, and Charles (May) Doi of Na‘alehu, Hawai‘i; sister: Helen (Tom) Honnaka of Honolulu; sisters-in-laws: Mary Doi of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Ruby Doi of Waimea; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Friends may visit with the family from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, at the Hanapepe United Church of Christ. Services officiated by Rev. Caroline Miura will begin at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Clara Ho
Clara Ho of Hanalei died June 27, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 98.
Born Feb. 20, 1907, in Waimea, she was a teacher.
She is survived by her husband: Kan Sing Ho of Hanalei; one daughter: Dorothy (David) Vigilante of San Diego; one sister: Katherine Loo of Honolulu, and one brother: Edward Ching of Honolulu; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Church Cemetery.

Catherine Turner
Catherine Crans Jackson Turner succumbed to Alzheimer’s on June 27, 2005, at the age of 89.
Born Sept. 8, 1916, in Caldwell, N.J., she was trained as a nurse and provided care for veterans of both World War I and World War II. She was also a professional operatic soprano until her late thirties. In 1947, while serving at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich., she met and married her husband of 52 years, John. She is the mother of two sons, Scott and Steven.
She was president of the Delta Pi Sorority in 1976. A licensed dog groomer on Kaua‘i for 15 years, she was president of Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and sang with numerous church choirs and the Kauai Chorale. A student of Hawaiian culture and hula under Roselle Bailey, she played ‘ukulele and sang with Charlie Kaneyama, and was honored by Mayor JoAnn Yukumura as one of the 10 most outstanding women of Kaua‘i. She was a beneficiary of Kauai Hospice care for over a year.
Florenda Cortez
Florenda “Lynda” Jean Cortez of Pearl City, Honolulu, died June 4, 2005, at Palimomi Hospital at the age of 47.
Born June 30, 1958, in Lihu‘e, she was a self-employed tax preparer.
She is survived by one son: Ryan Santos of Honolulu; two daughters: Melissa Cortez of Kaua‘i and Miche’le Cortez of Kaua‘i; mother: Flora Cortez of Lihu‘e; five brothers: Davis (Carolyn) Cortez, Sr. of Wailua, Richard Cortez of Wailua, Patrick (Judy) Cortez of Lihu‘e, Clifford (Claire) Cortez of Seattle, and Dennis Cortez of Lihu‘e; five sisters: Juliana Lim Cortez of the Philippines, Filomena Cortez of the Philippines, Norma Cortez of Kaua‘i, Peggy Salba-Honnet, and Debra (Jason) Likvoll; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Lynda’s life will be held on Saturday, July 2, at Lydgate Beach Park at 10 a.m. with luncheon to folow.

George J. Miyashiro
George J. Miyashiro of Kapa‘a, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 24, 2005, at the age of 84.
Born in Kapa‘a on Jan. 27, 1921, he was a decorated member of the 442nd Infantry Battalion of WWII; also an engineer in the Aerospace Industry.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; three brothers, Tasuku (Dot) Miyashiro of Honolulu, Susumu (Thelma) Miyashiro of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Lloyd Miyashiro of Kapa‘a; sister, Itsuko (Masaru) Kaneshiro; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the Kapa‘a United Church of Christ; service officiated by Pastor Claire Cassell will begin at 1 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
