The distinction of having their names put on the Club Perpetual Trophy combined with blue skies and lush greenery at the Anahola Park where the Kaua‘i Soccer Club hosted the 2005 Sassy/Jets Tournament to close their season.
Started nine years ago, the tournament featured mixed teams in two divisions, the Under 8/Under 10, and the Under 12/Under 18 vying to win the day’s championship.
Captain Krista Bolton with her teammates Haylei Sheldon, Joni Hashizume, Colby Sargent, Quinn Taylor, and Victor Sanchez of the Gladiators captured the championship in the U8/U10 division.
On the adjoining field, the Yodas, Galactic Sea Monsters, Coconuts, Shishkabobs, and Sweetness turned in good soccer games in the U12/U18 division with players who played against each other during the regular season, now mixed into teams where they played with each other.
When the melee subsided, the Galactic Sea Monsters nosed out the Coconuts, 3-2 for that title.
Captain Stephany Foster led the Galactic Sea Monsters including Kodi Barnett, Brycen Phillips, Gillian Pickett, Zaimana Fernandez, and Caitlin Dill. As the games unfolded on the fields, chefs Kevin Devitt, Ed Taylor, and Russell Yotsuda kept a close eye on the shrimp-on-the-barbie while club parents, players, and family members shared in good food and fun.
With Lynn Minei’s GU-8 KSC-Blazing Angels cheering, Pete Oliver did the honors of calling out the numbers for door prizes that were in such abundance that everyone at the celebration went home with a prize.
The event celebrated the end of the Kaua‘i Soccer Association (KSA) season.
