If the Red Raiders played the first, third, and fourth quarters and forgot about a dismal second period, they would’ve been still playing in the HHSAA/Hawaiian Airlines State Girls Basketball Tournament. But a 21-4 second quarter for Kaiser catapulted them to a 55-42 consolation bracket win yesterday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Kaiser also controlled the boards by out-rebounding the Red Raiders, 32-18. Pratt led her OIA squad with 12 boards. Rachel Taira grabbed six rebounds for Kaua‘i.
Kilioe Aliifua led the Cougars with 18 points. She was followed by Pratt with 13 markers and Nicole Lehner had 12 points. Kaua‘i’s Taira shot 5-16 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line for 14 points. The junior also dished out a team-high four assists. Senior Ulu Kelekoma was 5-8 from the field and ended up with 11 points. Sherri Gebauer and Darcie Allianic combined for 12 points. Kaua‘i was eliminated from the tournament and finished its 2005 campaign with the KIF title and an 8-3 record (0-2 HHSAA).
Graduating seniors are Kelekoma, Gebauer, and A.J. Silva.
