The 2005 KIF champion Red Raider girls’ basketball squad were knocked out in the first round of the HHSAA/Hawaiian Airlines Girls State Basketball Championships by the OIA’s Roosevelt, 60-33 at the Stan Sheriff Center, yesterday.
Tati Beasley led the Rough Riders with 18 points. For the Red Raiders, Rachel Taira had the hot hand and ended up with a team-high 13 points, which included two three-pointers.
Ulu Kelekoma followed up Taira’s performance with eight points and Sherri Gebauer notched seven markers in the loss. Gebauer also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Kaua‘i trailed from the start and fell further and further behind as the game progressed.
Roosevelt led 31-15 at the half and outscored the Red Raiders, 29-18 in the second half, which made the final score 60-33.
Kaua‘i drops down to the consolation bracket and faces Kaiser, today at 11 a.m.
A loss today would end Kaua‘i’s season, but a win would extend its season for one more game on Thursday at 12:45 p.m.
