KAPA‘A — Kawaihau Community Little League baseball president Shaylene Iseri-Carvalho said it well when she mentioned that someday the little league players will be grownups one day and will be cherishing the moments they create today, as the Kawaihau majors season “officially” kicked off its 2005 campaign.
“I hope all of you remember the countless volunteers who have and will help you out this season, because one day, you’ll be in their shoes and be counted on to help out players like yourselves,” Iseri-Carvalho said.
All the teams gathered around the Kapa‘a Ballpark diamond, as the ceremony began under the hot eastside sun.
Dignitaries like Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste, Councilmembers, Joann Yukimura, Mel Rapozo, and Iseri-Carvalho addressed the players, coaches, and fans, as the crowd took in the great event.
Iseri-Carvalho also mentioned that the 2005 season is dedicated to player Makoa Estenzo, who was diagnosed with a disease. She also encouraged everyone to donate blood.
The importance of volunteerism was also emphasized by the KCLL president.
“We have so many volunteers here today and I’d like to congratulate them for giving back to the community,” Iseri-Carvalho said.
The 2005 Kawaihau Community Little League majors board includes: vice-president Pat Lopez, secretary Charlene Bukoski, treasurer Adrian Chandler, safety officer Rob Cremer, equipment manager Wilson Moniz, schedule consultant Phil Rapozo, umpire coordinator Rich Rapozo, uniform coordinator Jan Kimura, food booth manager Tammi Moniz, and fundraising chairperson Kaleo Estenzo.
