The KIF tennis regular season is slowly wrapping up with just three matches to go (counting today’s matches) before the qualifiers on the weekend of April 29-30 at the Kiahuna Tennis Courts.
In today’s contests, Kaua‘i High School battles Kula School at the Hanalei Bay Resorts Tennis Courts and Kapa‘a High School faces off against Waimea High School at the Kiahuna Tennis Courts. Island School has the bye this weekend. Both matches start off at 12:00 p.m.
The Red Raiders are the front runners in both the boys and girls brackets. No surprises in the number one singles ranks, as both Jordan Kukino and Alex Sirois of Kaua‘i High School will be counted on to lead the KIF deep into state competition.
Kula’s amazing duo of Alex Latif and Kyle Barrett, who were the pleasant surprises of last year’s state tournament, should be able to take off from where they left off last season.
This year’s HHSAA/State Tennis Championships will be hosted by Punahou School at the Central O‘ahu Regional Park from May 11-14.
