Isidro “Cha-Cho” “Kalalau Kid” Rivera of Makaweli died at Queen’s Medical Center at the age of 75.
Born in Koloa on Jan. 14, 1930, he was a retired Gay & Robinson, Inc. sugar employee.
Preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Ramona Rivera and sons Swain Seth Rivera and Rudy Rivera, he is survived by his wife, Monaliza Buyat Rivera and their children, daughter, Naomi Rivera, and sons, Joshua Rivera and Kama‘aina Rivera, of Makaweli.
He is also survived by son Kalalau Rivera, daughter Hanakapi‘ai (Nathan) Grasse, and son Benjamin (Cameron) Rivera of Kaua‘i; daughters Swanie (Bob) Kepple of Iowa, Paulette (Leon) Glover of Arkansas, and Joan RiveraSims of Kaua‘i; sister Lucia (Gabriel ) Santiago of ‘Oma‘o, brother Daniel (Ruby) Rivera of New Mill and brother Abraham Rivera of New Mill; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Private scattering of ashes will be done at a later date at Kalalau Valley Beach.
Mary Haumea
Mary Lai Chee Haumea of Anahola, died March 11, 2005, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 91.
Born July 15, 1913, in Wainiha, she was proprietor of Leihua’s Hawaiian Food Market on Kekaulike St. in Honolulu.
She is survived by son: David “China” Haumea; five grandchildren: Kervin (Lloydeen) Peters, Tammie (Wesley) Haraguchi, Dodie (Rudy Thompson) Haumea, Erwin Haumea, and David (Alisa) Haumea; hanai daughter: Dorothy Kaliko Nakamura of O‘ahu; hanai niece, Cathy Ham Young of Wainiha; numerous nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Hanalei Waioli Hui‘ia Church where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Hanalei Community Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Linda Machado
Linda Machado of Kapa‘a died March 12, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 56.
Born Sept. 1, 1948, on Kaua‘i, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her mother: Emily O. Machado; sister: Shirley M. Machado; two brothers: Steven W. Machado and Roy A. Machado; hanai son: Timothy L. Escalante; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, March 31, at St. Catherine’s Church from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where a memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Scattering will be private, potluck at 6:30 p.m. at 374-B Kaima Pl. in Kapa‘a. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
