Lunch out
The Friday March 4 issue of The Garden Island’s front page picture of County Offices of Community Assistance Personnel, OCA’s Housing Agency Personnel, and the Kaua‘i member of the Hawaii Tourism Authority shows them at the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort. Is this another way for officials to waste money? Didn’t we renovate a building next to the Pi‘ikoi Building on Rice Street at the new county building location? If so, why are these officials not using it? Doesn’t the conference room have as good air conditioning system as the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort?
Furthermore, who pays for this officials expenses at the resort? (Tax payers?) If so, why don’t the officials bring home lunches?
Every little bit of money we can save should be put into a affordable housing fund not in the stomachs of county officials, etc.
We have a lot of young adults with children waiting to buy or for rentals of homes.

Progress is healthy
I would hope that those who are objecting to the addition of a Costco to our Island would consider the numerous benefits these types of businesses such as Wal-Mart, K Mart, Safeway and Home Depot offer not only to us as consumers but also to their employees who have the advantage of pension plans, incentive rewards, possibilities for promotion, paid vacations, and numerous other benefits that only large corporations can provide. There will always be a need for small businesses but they will need to concentrate on certain particular needs of the consumer. Halting change is not possible as anyone who has studied our economy and history will testify. Progress is healthy!
