Raymond Mahoe Keahi
Raymond Mahoe Keahi of Moloa‘a died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Thursday, March 3.
He was the son of the late Esther Maemae and Charles Holokahiki Keahi of Hule‘ia, Ko‘olau and Waipouli.
He is survived by his sister, Winona M. (Richard) Rosehill of O‘ahu; sisters-in-law, Blanche (Norman) Keahi of Kailua, O‘ahu, Phyllis (Joseph) Keahi and Rose (Elmer) Keahi of Anahola; many nieces and nephews and special caregivers, Joanna and Puanani, nieces of the deceased.
Services and burial will take place on Saturday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at Lihu‘e Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Alfredo A. Villanueva
Alfredo A. Villanueva of Hanama‘ulu died Feb. 20, 2005, at his home in Hanama‘ulu, at the age of 83. Born Jan. 18, 1922 in the Philippines, he was a mechanic for Lihue Plantation.
He is survived by his wife: Leonora “Nora” A. Villanueva; two children: Sandra Mae Villanueva and Alfred Villanueva; two brothers: Leocadio Villanueva and Domingo (Nelie) Villanueva; three sisters: Anecita (Juanito) Martinez, Rosita (Adriano) Encarnacion, and Juanita (Gregorio) Alonzo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 8 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, at Immaculate Conception Church where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by Father Bill. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Shizuno Hiranaka
Shizuno Hiranaka of Kapa‘a, died at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on Feb. 25, 2005, at the age of 103.
Born in Moloa‘a on Apr. 2, 1901, she was a homemaker.
Preceded in death by husband, Jino; sons, Richard and Shigeshi, she is survived by three sons, Larry (Mae) Hiranaka of Honolulu, Gary (Elaine) Hiranaka of Kapa‘a and Tomoo (Marie) Hiranaka of Lihu‘e; two daughters, Janet (William) Haraguchi of Hanalei and Elaine Suyama of Honolulu; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grand-children; one great-great-grand-daughter; brother, Hajime Morita of Hanama‘ulu; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, at the Kapaa Hongwanji Mission; service to begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Charlene Toyofuku-Nance
Charlene “Char” Yoshi Toyofuku-Nance of Puhi, died Feb. 26, 2005, at Queen’s Hospital in Honolulu, O‘ahu the age of 39.
Born Aug. 18, 1965, in Waimea, she was a cocktail server for the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Po‘ipu.
She is survived by husband, Franklin Nance Jr. of Puhi; daughter, Calcee Jane Nance of Puhi; two sons: Chasen Nance of Puhi and stepson, Chavis Nance-Yadao of Puhi; parents, Charles and Carol Toyofuku, of Honolulu; sister, Cathy Toyofuku of Honolulu; brothers, Calvin (Annie) Toyofuku of Waimea, Carl Toyofuku of Lihu‘e, Kurt (Casey) Toyofuku of Mililani, O‘ahu; mother-in-law, Shirleen Nance of Puhi; two nieces: Jocelyn Kobayashi, Carleen Kobayashi, both of Honolulu, five nephews: Ioane Toyofuku, Kenjo Toyofuku, both of Waimea, Tyler Kobayashi of Honolulu, Kaylen Toyofuku, Koby Toyofuku, both of Mililani.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 12, at the Waimea United Church of Christ, next to the Waimea High School grounds. Visitation will start at 9 a.m. with services to follow at 10 a.m. officiated by the Rev. Mitchell Young. Casual attire is suggested.

Yoshito Oyama
Yoshito “Barney” Oyama of Honolulu, died Feb. 24, 2005, at Kuakini Medical Center at the age of 87.
Born May 18, 1917, in Wahiawa, he was a retired employee of Big Save, Inc.
He is survived by son, Jack (Linda) Oyama; daughters, Edna (Harmony) Ching, Kay K. (Brian, Sr.) Yamanaka, Judith T. (Melvin) Fukumoto; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Kinuko (Shigenori) Ishibashi, Haruko Nagata.
Services were held at the Kauai Soto Zen Temple. No koden (monetary offerings.)
Arrangements were handled by Hosoi Garden Mortuary.
Dr. Jon Scott Kerns, M.D.
Dr. Jon Scott Kerns, M.D. of Waimea, died Feb. 27, 2005, at Kauai Veteran’s Memorial Hospital at the age of 64.
Born Sept. 20, 1940, in Alturas, California, he was a physician who practiced Family Practice and Geriatric Medicine.
He is survived by his wife: Claudia Kerns of Waimea; son: Robin S. Kerns of Nederland, Colo.; sister: Helen (Ronald) Egy of Oakland, Calif.; and one niece.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, at Eleele Baptist Church, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Eleele Baptist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Steven Shigeo Medrano
Steven Shigeo Medrano of Honolulu, died March 4, 2005, at Straub Clinic and Hospital at the age of 57.
Born in Lihu‘e, he was a Work-force Development specialist for Hawai‘i State Department of Labor.
He is survived by his spouse, Lily Wada of Honolulu; brother: Mel Medrano of Lihu‘e; sisters: Charlene (Mathis) Singleton of Gardena, Calif., Pamela Jardin of Lihu‘e, Lavenda (Jason) Apilado of Lihu‘e; and mother: Perlita Medrano of Lihu‘e.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 13, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary, where service will begin at 10 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.
Memorial service and inurnment on Kaua‘i are pending.
Caroline Rego Kanehe
Caroline Marie Rego Kanehe of Hanama‘ulu died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on March 6, 2005, at the age of 62.
Born in Lihu‘e, on June 30, 1942, she was employed by Hawai‘i Care & Cleaning.
She is survived by one daughter: Hope Kanehe of Hanama‘ulu; three sons: Timothy Kanehe of Hanalei; Kevin (Deanna) Kanehe of Kilauea and Titus (Sandra) Kanehe of Kilauea.
One sister, Veronica (Ralph) Gonsalves of Lihu‘e; seven grand-children; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Kapa‘a. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Gary Daniels
Gary William Daniels of Koloa, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 24, 2005, at the age of 52.
Born in Torrence, Calif., on Jan. 21, 1953, he was a professor at the National University of Industrial Arts Department in Long Beach, Calif., working with machines. He had a love for teaching children.
He is survived by his brother, Michael (Linda) Daniels of Crockett, Tex. Scattering of his cremains wil be held at a later date.
