Kiyoshi Inouye
Kiyoshi Inouye of Koloa, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 20, 2005, at the age of 80.
Born in Koloa, on Oct. 4, 1924, he was Power Generation Chief Operator with McBryde Sugar Company.
Mr. Inouye was a decorated Korean War veteran who attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth C. Inouye; two sons, Eric S. (Linda) Inouye of ‘Ele‘ele and Nelson K. Inouye of Koloa; daughter, Aimee C. Inouye of Koloa; two grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held at a later date.

John Medina
John Medina of Lawai, died at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home on Feb. 19, 2005, at the age of 90.
Born in Koloa, on March 5, 1914, he was a retired county truck driver.
He is survived by daughter, Elizabeth (Wayne) Allianic of Lawai; three stepsons, Ernest (Mickey) Silva of Kekaha, Patrick (Sweetie) Lopez of Kapa‘a and Alfred Lopez of Kapa‘a; step-daughter, Henrietta Boynton of Wailua; brother, Tony (Mabel) Medina of ‘Oma‘o; five sisters, Emilia Valentin of Lihu‘e, Helen Medina of Aiea, Julia (Louis) Tory of Kapolei, Louisa Mills of Aiea and Cathy (Allen) Nagel of San Pablo, Calif.; 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 9-10:30 a.m. on Friday, Mar. 4, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo; Mass officiated by Father Biz will begin at 10:30 a.m. Followed by interment at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Zenichi Muraoka
Zenichi “Pappy” Muraoka of Kapa‘a, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 22, 2005, at the age of 88.
Born in Makaweli, on Oct. 27, 1916, he was the postmaster at Kaumakani.
He is survived by his wife, Itsue; two sons, Zane Muraoka and Earl Muraoka, both of Kapa‘a; three daughters, Dale Muraoka of Kapa‘a, Lori Muraoka and Val Muraoka-Robertson both of Los Angeles, Calif.; two grand-children; one brother, Kinichi Muraoka of Hanapepe. Services were private.

Allan Robert Teves
Allan Robert Teves of Kapa‘a, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 23, 2005, at the age of 67.
Born in Lihu‘e, on March 29, 1937, he was a truck driver with Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy E. Teves; three sons, Randal Teves and Earl Teves, both of Kapa‘a, and Eric (Jackie) Teves of Wailua; daughter, Alicia (Shane) McGurn of Kapa‘a; seven grandchildren; brother, John Larry (Yvonne) Teves of Kapa‘a; two sisters, Eleanor (Mel) Wilson of Wailua and Jeanette Souza of Kapa‘a.
Friends may visit with the family from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery Pavilion; service officiated by Father Biz will begin at 2 p.m., interment to follow.

Betty Tanabe
Betty Mitsuru Tanabe of Lihu‘e, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 24, 2005, at the age of 93.
Born in Lihu‘e, on Aug. 8, 1911, she was a self-employed seam-stress.
Preceded in death by her husband, Sadao Tanabe, she is survived by two brothers, Albert Matsumoto and Edward (Evelyn) Matsumoto, both from Honolulu, O‘ahu; two sisters, Miyuki Billie Yoneji of Kaua‘i and Kawayo Yamane of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 5, at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission; service to begin at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Lihue Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Sandra G. Meyers
Sandra G. Meyers of Kapa‘a, died Feb. 27, 2005, at the age of 63.
Born in New York, she lived for more than 20 years in the Bay Area of Northern California. After spending more and more time on Kaua‘i, she retired in 1993 and moved here permanently.
She graduated from UC Berkeley with an honors degree in sociology in 1963 and later returned to UC Berkeley’s Boalt School of Law from which she graduated in 1973. She was an active community member, working tirelessly for political and social causes in which she believed. Her Kauai Relay for Life team raised a record amount of money for the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the boards of directors of the Jewish Community of Kauai and of the Kauai Concert Association.
She is survived by her son, Jonathon and his wife Sara Frane, of Oakland, Calif.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 2 at Kilohana Carriage House at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the tsunami relief fund of the JDC via the Jewish Community of Kauai, or to Kauai Hospice.
Yuriko Kimura
Yuriko Kimura of Makaweli died Feb. 22, 2005, at Kauai Care Center in Waimea at the age of 86.
Born Jan. 17, 1919, in Makaweli, she was a seamstress at Iolani Sportswear.
She is survived by sons: Clyde Kimura of Missouri, Reid (Ethel) Kimura of California, Curtis (Joy) Kimura of Waimea; daughter: Elise (Michael) KimuraTittle of Missouri; sisters: Suzue (Frank) Phillips of Illinois, Fumie (Takeo) Kasahara of Honolulu; brothers: Kazuo Iwatate of Makaweli and Yoshiake (Mae) Iwatate of California; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild. numerous nieces, nephews and cousins;

Helen Smith
Helen Leimomi Smith of Mountain View, Hawai‘i, died Feb. 19, 2005, at Hilo Medical Center at the age of 41.
She was a former security guard and also former employee of the Ross Store in Hilo.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Dodo Mortuary Chapel; funeral service at 7 p.m.; cremation to follow. The family suggests casual attire and asks that flowers be omitted.

Anastacia Pegeder
Anastacia Ganio Pegeder of Hanama‘ulu, died Feb. 15, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 79.
Born June 1, 1925, in Sarrat Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a kitchen helper at Ma’s Place in Lihu‘e.
She is survived by her husband: Silverio Pegeder Sr. of Hanama‘ulu; daughters Mary Cathey of Pittsburgh, Penn., and Natividad Ramos of Lihu‘e; sons: Rojellio Pegeder of Hanama‘ulu, Angelino Pegeder of Hanama‘ulu and Silverio (Dorine) Pegeder Jr. of Hanama‘ulu; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be held on March 5, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia. Visitation will start at 9:30 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. officiated by Fr. Bill Shannon. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Hanako Sadamitsu
Hanako Sadamitsu of Puhi, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 26, 2005, at the age of 87.
Born in Huleia on April 21, 1917, she was co-owner of Sadamitsu Store.
She is survived by daughter, Fay Sadamitsu of Lihu‘e; numerous nieces and nephews.

Byron “Bill” William Carl of Lihu‘e, died Feb. 28, 2005, at his home in Lihu‘e at the age of 63.
Born June 8, 1941, in California, he was the proprietor of Lazerz Edge Wood Shop.
He is survived by one daughter: Kimberly (Michael Letcher) Carl of Missouri; son: Kevin Carl of Lihu‘e; sister: Alice Deppe of Honolulu; brother Bob Carl of Seattle; caregiver: Lucy Kaneshiro of Lihu‘e; one grandson; nieces and nephews.
Private services were held. Donations may be made in his name to Kaua‘i Hospice. Arrangements were handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Robert Nawai, Jr.
Robert Kamealoha Nawai, Jr. of Waimea, died March 1, 2005, at his home at the age of 41.
Born Feb . 8, 1964, on O‘ahu, he was a construction foreman for Highway Construction Ltd.
He is survived by his parents: Robert and Vivian “Lei” Nawai of Waimea; sister: Lynette (Virgil) Kapanui of Waimea; material grandmother Vivian Lei Souza of Koloa; one niece; two nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, at Waimea Sacred Hearts Church where memorial services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Larry.
