The Kaua‘i High School boys’ basketball team got no respect when the state tournament brackets were handed down yesterday.
Kaua‘i would have, if they advance in the first round by beating Kalaheo High School, would set up a match up with tournament #1 seed Iolani in the second round.
The Red Raiders, who blew through the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation undefeated, start their run Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. at the Neil Blaisdell Arena.
Their opponent, Kalaheo, finished the year in third place in the O‘ahu Interscholastic Association. They had an OIA record of 11-3 and 16-13 overall.
If the Red Raiders can get by Kalaheo, whom they beat in the preseason, Iolani awaits.
Iolani, the ILH champ, finished 26-2 overall and also cruised through their division, finishing 14-0. They will play Wednesday’s winner on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
