Leslie Michael
Leslie William “Les” Michael of Kekaha passed away on Jan. 26 while on his way to visit family and friends in San Diego, Calif. He was 65 years old.
He was born Oct. 9, 1939, to Henry and Virginia (Riden) Michael and raised in Laurel, MT. After graduating from Laurel High School in 1957, Les attended an electronic techni-cal school, and then joined the U.S. Navy in 1958. After his U.S. Navy schooling, Les was stationed on Kaua‘i, he instantly fell in love with the island and its people. Fol-lowing his discharge from the U.S. Navy he returned to Kaua‘i where he worked on various government projects before settling into his life-long work: serving on the Kaua‘i Police Department. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry, in 1983.
Les is survived by his beloved wife Rose (Guillerma) Michael, their children: Deborah (Joseph) Kaauwai, Jr., Cynthia (Pohaku) Matsuura, Christopher Kekoa Michael, Susan (Bernard) Dunham, Stephanie (Frank) Funtanila, Paul (Chantel) Foster, 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; mother Vir-ginia (Henry) Michael, Laurel, MT., brother Ronald (Karen) Michael, Laurel, MT., aunt Lillian (Mel) Stene, Joliet, MT. and aunt Macie (Harold) Riden, Hampton, VA., nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lieutenant Les Michael retired from the KPD after almost 25 years of service. He enjoyed traveling, he was an avid UH fan and enjoyed watching all sports and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Private services and cremation took place in San Diego, Calif., on Jan. 30. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. at his residence in Kekaha.
Casual attire requested.
Mary Frances Meehan
Mary Frances Meehan of Lihu‘e, passed away on Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 at the age of 84.
Born on June 20, 1920, in Anaconda, Mont., she spent her child-hood in Great Falls, Montana. After college, she taught in a oneroom school house in Sweetgrass, Montana. She married Robert Meehan on Jan. 14, 1942. She taught elementary school in Kellogg, Idaho and retired as a Librarian from the Los Angeles City Library in 1980. She moved to Kauai in Sept. 1999.
Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Emmett Meehan and son, Lawrence James Meehan, she is survived by daughter, Mary Beth (Billy) Terheggen of Kapa‘a; four sons, John “Jay” Meehan of Utah, Richard “McGee” Meehan of Lihu‘e, Terry Meehan and Patrick Meehan of California; sister, Eleanor Weir of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Shannon (Willy) Kaneholani of Anahola, Robert “Smokey” Meehan of Utah, Erin (Nathan) TerheggenHayes of Kalaheo, Dawnelle (Ray) Wright of Washington; five greatgrandchildren, Austin, McKenna and Haley Kaneholani, Daisha and Brianna Wright.
Friends may join the family for visitation from 99:45 a.m. on Thurs., Feb. 17, at the St. Catherine’s Catholic Church where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Miriam Pahulehua
Miriam Kaleipua Pahulehua died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 9, 2005, at the age of 66.
Born in Pu‘uwai, Ni‘ihau on April 4, 1938. she is survived by son, Melvin Kauwila (Sana) Pahulehua of Ni‘ihau; two hanai sons, Ainsley K. Halemanu and Keola Chan, both of Honolulu; two daughters, Miriam Ella (Kalana) Kanahele and Gladys Lei Awapuhi (Kaleiona Lani) Kahale, both of Ni‘ihau; 11 grandchildren; brother, Joseph Hookipa Kanahele of Makaweli; two sisters, Mileka Kanahele of Honolulu and Loka Kaohelaulii of Kekaha; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 10 a.m. on Wed., Feb. 16, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service officiated by Kahu Thomas Elia Kanahele will begin at 12 noon followed by burial at Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
