RENO, Nev. — Ramon Sessions scored the last six points of the game from the free-throw line as Nevada took a 58-55 win over Hawaii on Saturday night.
Nick Fazekas and Kevinn Pinkney each recorded double-doubles for the Nevada (8-3, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference). Fazekas led all scorers with 23 points and had a game-high 17 rebounds while Pinkney had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Matt Gibson led the Rainbow Warriors with 19 points. Hawaii (8-2, 0-2) won its first eight games of the season but has now lost two straight.
Nevada, which did not score from the floor in the last 6:24 of the game, trailed 55-52 with 1:30 to play. Sessions was fouled on consecutive trips down the floor and hit four free throws to give the Pack a 56-55 lead.
Julian Sensleys 15-foot jumper with 10 seconds to play was short and Sessions, who finished with 14 points, grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He hit both free throws before Deonte Tatums attempt to tie the game missed at the buzzer.
Nevada had a huge advantage on the boards, out-rebounding Hawaii 50-26 in the game. Hawaii led 28-23 at halftime with a strong defensive effort in which the Warriors recorded 13 steals and forced 17 Nevada turnovers.
