Hanging around The Kaua‘i Athletic Club finally paid off for Nilo Badua and Daniel “Teddy” Higashi as, KAC held its first annual winter racquetball shootout on December 18. Higashi and Badua, inseparable both on and off the court, finally got their time in the limelight with a win in the men’s doubles “A” division.
With all games held on Saturday, the format consisted of three divisions, Men’s singles/doubles, Women’s singles/doubles and mixed doubles.
Phil Eliana conquered the men’s “A” division with a win over Nilo Badua. Ryan Domingsel defeated Dave Schaad in the “B” division.
In “C” division action, Russell Messing beat Bill Skelton. In the “A” division women’s singles match, Laura Goo outhustled Maureen Higa for the title.
Carlynn Ledward managed to get a win against Minnie McBride for the “B” division singles title. In men’s doubles, Badua and Higashi used their talents to dispose Gerald Miller and Robert Elliot in the “A” division.
Bob Melnikoff and Dave Schaad squatted away with the “B” division doubles title over Phil Eliana and Steve Kaui. In the “C” division, Ryan Domingsel picked up his second title of the day along with partner Junior Pascual. Mike Henthorn and Russ Messing picked up second-place honors.
Laura Goo also got another win in women’s doubles with partner Carlynn Ledward. Lauri Puni and Patty Pacanag got the second slot.
In mixed doubles, Bob Melnikoff and Maureen Higa were too tough for Daniel “Teddy Bear” Higashi and Laura Goo in the “A” division.
Meanwhile, David “Hanging” Schaad and Carlynn Ledward beat out Robert Elliot and Kathleen Higa in “B” division action.
