Hatsue Ijima Yamakawa of Lawa‘i, died at home in the loving company of her family on Dec. 23, 2004 at the age of 90.
Born in Makaweli, on May 5, 1914, she is survived by her husband, Masayoshi “Bob” Yamakawa; children, Sydney (Edward) Damm of Texas, Karen (Albert) Mehrer of California, Lee Yamakawa of Washington, Lance (Susan) Yamakawa of North Carolina, Jane (Alvin) Pang of O‘ahu, Roy Yamakawa of Kaua‘i, eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Mitsue (Kenji) Kimoto of Kekaha and Yoshie Iwai of Koloa; numerous nieces and nephews, with special acknowledgements to care-giving nieces Colleen Iwai and Lynn Gushiken both of Koloa. Service were private.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Alipio Bodano
Alipio Bodano of Lihu‘e, died Dec. 29, 2004, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 90.
Born July 24, 1914, in Bangued Abra, Philippines, he was an irrigator with the Lihue Plantation and Grove Farm from 1946 to 1976.
He is survived by his wife: Elisa Bodano of Lihu‘e; three daughters: Verna Bodano (Richard Leota) of Anahola; Katherine (Craig) Reiff of New Hampshire and Marla (Scott) McGurn of Puhi; son: David (Darlene) Bodano of Lihu‘e; sister-in-law: Violeta StaAna of Tampa, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church on Monday, Jan. 3, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Lihu‘e Public Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
