North Shore basketball scholarships
Registration for the 2005 spring basketball season for boys and girls, kindergarten through fifth grade, will begin in January. The games will be played at the Kilauea gym from April through May.
For the last four years the community supported this scholarship program.
Last year through the generosity of community organizations, businesses and individuals were able to award scholarships to over 30 children from Kilauea and Hanalei whose families are economically challenged.
There are many sad situations i.e., parent has died, lost their job, single parent struggling to make ends meet, parent in jail, etc. These scholarships are confidentially awarded.
This year, they’d like to award scholarships to all children who are on the school’s free or reduced lunch program.
These children have been federally certified as “in need.”
With over 404574270f Kilauea and Hanalei School’s children on this program, there is a challenge but, with your help, they can support these children so they may enjoy a structured sports program.
A program that teaches the fundamentals of basketball but whose emphasis is on social interaction, sportsmanship, teamwork, and whose objective is to have fun.
This will be Bill Troutman’s sixth year as volunteer coordinator for the north shore.
He continues to be supported with excellent coaches who serve as role models and promote the goal of the Boys & Girls Club, “a positive place for kids.”
The children who participate in this program have shown remarkable improvement in behavior and schoolwork as attested by the supportive Kilauea and Hanalei School staffs, as well as the Kaua‘i Christian Academy and other private school staffs.

Last year over 200 children participated. We even had two senior teams (up to 94 years young).
Dr. Goodman and Terri Sullivan donated shirts for the seniors. They’re always looking for coaches.
You are invited to watch our games, all day Saturdays in April and May. Smiles on the kids faces will make your day!
