Early season KIF “Stars”

As the KIF fall season comes to a close, with just a few weeks to go before every fall sport is completed, it’s time to recognize the KIF’s “cream of the crop.”
Starting with football, the three teams have been blessed with great quarterbacks. Kaua‘i’s Kekoa Crowell, Kapa‘a’s Kalima Leong, and Waimea’s Max had all have their different and unique styles, but they are all capable of getting the job done. As far as receivers go, the shifty Kevin Cadiente of Kaua‘i nails down the top spot. He has proven that size really doesn’t matter and his big play capabilities are second to none.
Honorable mention should go out to Waimea’s Justin Estes, Kapa‘a’s Ward Mikami, and Kaua‘i’s Jett Jasper.
Waimea’s Aina Emayo is the lead candidate at runningback and on the line, Kapa‘a’s Moses Punzal, Kaua‘i’s Pat Kua, and Waimea’s Kellen Naka‘ahiki would make any player on the opposition shake in his shoes. On defense, Kapa‘a’s Amini Taufoou, Waimea’s Dawa Bunao, and Kaua‘i’s Ivan Kuapahi keeps offenses off the field.
In girls volleyball, Kapa‘a’s Amniesty Ragsac, Poe Gantt, Jennifer Lindsey, and Joliann Arzadon all have been spectacular so far for the Warriors. Kehau Judd, Tina Moger, Trisha Niau, and Auika Muragin have kept the Red Raiders on top of the KIF.
Banana Kajiwara, Nue Wong, and Jessica Jacinto have been the reasons why the Menehune are in virtually every game they play. For the boys, Futi Tavana, Kevin Downing, Justin McSheehy, and Garrett Sakimae make the “A” list for the dominate Red Raider squad.
Chris Ramelb, Alika Woodward, Kiah Imai, and Lyndon Pascual have been very helpful for head coach Merrill Carvalho. Waimea’s Josh Cabral, Timmy Mattos, Kyle Pigao, and Bryan Hayashi keeps the Menehune attack strong.
Kaua‘i’s Chelsea Smith- Wishard and Kassy Morishige have been strong for the Red Raider girls cross-country squad. Rachel Martin seems to finish at top at every meet so far for Waimea and Alexandra Pond, Liana Nakazawa, and Kiren Pond are the main reasons why the Kapa‘a girls sit atop the KIF in girls cross-country. Gillian Pickett of Kula has been strong for the northshore school.
On the boys side, Waimea’s Scott and Nathan Martin are putting up great times.
Chad Naganuma and Kiley Momohara have been stellar so far for the Red Raiders. Island School’s Chris Marsh, Alan Hoffman, and Brian O’Brian have been the consistent factors behind the Voyagers’ rise to the top.
In KIF bowling, Kekoa Masuda of Waimea, Jesse Duarte of Kaua‘i, and Bernard Yadao have been the top players for the boys. For the girls, Jenni Ueno of Waimea, Meiling Keopuhiwa of Kaua‘i, and Kelii Cacal have played tough all season long. Waimea’s Brian Martin, Island’s Erik Talvi, Kaua‘i’s Marc Shibata, and Kapa‘a’s Reyn Mossman have been tough in KIF boys riflery.
Kaua‘i’s Ka‘iulani Sheldon, Island’s Kelli-Rose Hooser, Waimea’s Jenni Ueno, and Kapa‘a’s Brittney Sutton have all put in good performances this season.
With the winter season on the brink, more exciting KIF action and “stars” will shine, stay tuned and enjoy Kaua‘i’s talented prepsters!
