Ohana Kauai
In our county, we cannot gather all the citizens in a meeting to pass laws, develop and execute policies and to raise and expend taxes. There, we elect people to a legislative body to do these things for us in a manner consistent with our desires. Each of us evaluates and votes for people who reflect our own wishes and concerns. We must have confidence in those elected representatives that they will act with wisdom and make the right choices. Among the many choices they must make is which programs will our county implement and how shall the county pay for them. The programs are paid for with money that comes from our taxes.
In biblical Egypt the captive Israelites were commanded to make bricks without straw. Will we emulate those Egyptians and say to our representatives – implement necessary programs, but do not exercise your own judgment as to how to pay for them.
California has a fiscal mess that stems in large part from their Proposition 13 which limits the legislature’s discretion with respect to taxes.
Let us have some confidence in the people we have chosen to represent us and not tie their hands. The proposed Ohana Kauai Amendment will eventually give us a California-type fiscal mess.

Chaney-Edwards debate
The question I’ve asked myself “Am I better off now then four years ago?” The answer to that question is a “NO” for I am working two jobs and still going in debt. I have no health insurance and recently had to go into the hospital. The 10 minute operations cost me $3,000 with NO insurance to pay. I make $9.00 an hour. The clear choice for me is obvious the Kerry/Edwards ticket. The debate between John Edwards and Dick Cheney presented Americans with a stark choice, and last nights debate showed me how obnoxious Bush is.
He’s a puppet that was put into office my Bush Sr and his CIA counterparts. These things were planned since Bush sr was in the CIA in the early 80’s.
John Edwards shared an optimistic vision for the next four years: Genuine leadership in the war on terror. An economic growth plan that creates jobs and keeps them here at home. Affordable health care for every American. A plan to make America stronger at home and respected abroad.
But Dick Cheney had nothing to share but attacks and excuses. As the architect of four years of failed Bush administration policies, Cheney had a lot to answer for in this debate. But he failed to explain those failures, instead attacking John Kerry over and over again. I want a plan for the future, not attacks and excuses. The vice presidential debate made it clear that John Kerry and John Edwards are the right choice.
