Kaua‘i tennis teams represnt Hawai‘i

Congratulations to the following Kaua‘i tennis teams who are representing the State of Hawai‘i at the national championship round of the largest adult recreation tennis league in the world: 2.5 Women – Hanalei Hurricanes: Sally Bowen (Captain), Amy Arnett, Nina Caris, Catherine Vea, Susan Showalter, Kathleen Detreaux and Gina Warmbold. 4.0 Men – YPOG: Glenn Ikemoto (Captain), Chris Webster, Brad Klontz, Gary Joseph, Marvin Otsuji, Francisco Garcia, Ed Renaltner, Cameron Floria, Ronald Hosaka, Eddie Kane, Lance Akama, Herb Noe, Rick Hanna, Thomas Hadwin and Strom Gaditano. The 2.5 women of the Hanalei Hurricanes will be playing at the Moore Tennis Academy, Palm Springs, Ca. on October 8-10, 2004. The 4.0 men of YPOG will play their championship matches at Randolph Park Tennis Center, Tucson, Arizona on October 1-3, 2004. Both teams battled statewide teams and were victorious at the recent August Sectional Championships at Kapalua, Maui.
Custom Limo hands KFD a loss
Didi Ibia got the pitching win for Custom Limo, who bounced past KFD, 11-3 in HGEA mountainball action on Thursday.
Gregg Morishige got the loss for KFD. At the plate, Custom Limo was led by Didi Ibia (2-1B), Sam Dias (2-1B), Willie Nuivo (1-1B, 1-2B, 2-RBI), and Scott Kouchi (2-1B, 1-3B, 2-RBI). Nuivo also drove in the winning run. For the KFD bats, Jason Pablo and Jason Ornellas came up with a pair of hits a piece and Miles Bellis slammed a triple and 2 RBI.
Brenn Naka‘ahiki pitched a shutout for Hana Hou, who blanked Hard Knocks, 9-0. Corey Rego picked up the loss. At the plate, Hana Hou’s bats were paced by Stanley Morinaka (2-1B, 2-RBI), Bully Balocan (1-1B, 1-2B, 1-RBI), Don Ouderkirk (1-1B, 2-RBI), Todd Yamase (2-1B), Dean Pigao (2-1B), and Andy Pungan (1-1B, 2-RBI). Ouderkirk drove in the winning run. Hard Knocks got 2 hits a piece from Dan Fort, Bobby Texeira, and Darrin Alcos. Rainbow Sports slammed Nogi’s, 14-6, behind Lance Nakata’s pitching. Jeffrey Iida got the loss. Rainbow Sports got good hitting from Royce Ijima (2-1B, 1-RBI), Ross Kagawa (2-1B), Kelly Robinson (4-1B), Wendell Nonaka (1-1B, 1-HR, 4-RBI), Davis Oshiro (2-1B, 1-RBI), Vince Nitta (2-1B), and Tyrus Matsumoto (1-1B, 2-RBI). Nonaka’s HR drove in 2 runs to win the game. Nogi’s bats were led by Ryden “Roach” Domingsel (2-1B, 1-RBI), Tommy “John” Cox (3-1B), and Blaine Nakano (2-1B, 1-RBI).
UH sweeps Eastern Washington
HONOLULU — The new-look Hawaii women’s volleyball team opened its regular season by sweeping Eastern Washington on Thursday night in the opening round of the Wahine Classic. With only sophomore setter Kanoe Kamanao returning from last year’s starting lineup, the Rainbow Wahine defeated the Eagles 30-23, 30-15, 30-20. Alicia Arnott led a balanced Hawaii attack with 11 kills. Melody Eckmier added nine kills in 10 attempts. Kamanao dished out 37 assists and had 10 digs. Brittney Page led Eastern Washington with nine kills.
The season opener at the Stan Sheriff Center was attended by 5,857 fans. The Rainbow Wahine, ranked No. 13 in the preseason USA Today-American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, face San Diego on Friday night.
