Cops on top for Special Olympics
By The Garden Island
The annual Cop on Top fundraising event, a benefit for Special Olympics Kaua‘i, takes place at Safeway, located in the Kaua‘i Village Shopping Plaza, Kapa‘a from September 2, 6:00 a.m. through September 4, 2:00 p.m.
Two of Kaua‘i’s finest local law enforcement officers, Hank Barriga and Ezra Kanoho will head to the rooftop, each with a commitment to remain up on the roof for three consecutive days and nights, or until they raise a minimum of $10,000 for Special Olympics Kaua‘i.
For every $20 donation you’ll receive a complimentary event t-shirt, plus qualify to win $500 in Safeway gift certificates from Kaua‘i Village.
With your donation, one lucky Safeway customer will receive their groceries free!
You can also enjoy great entertainment at the event. For more information, call 652-6882.

Aribon, Garcia win races
It was a beautiful sunday of radio control racing, especially for Reggie Aribon and Bart Garcia, who won their divisions. Aribon was the top qualifier and winner of the 4wd nitro sedan A class and Garcia was the winner of the 4wd nitro sedan B division. 13-year old Seth Morales, the only kid racer, managed to keep up with some of the fastest racers on the island. Special thanks to Mr. Jarrett Chytka, general manager of Big Kmart for use of the parking lot. The next race will be on Sept. 12 at the Wailua off-road track. The race will start at 10:00 a.m. with no admission fee. For more information, call Arnold at 821-8132 or 639-9314. See complete results on page B2.
