Dennis Fujimoto THE GARDEN ISLAND “It’s just perfect for doing errands around town,” Papa Arquette said of his newly-acquired electric car.
“And, it’s built by Ford. It’s called the Think (with an upside down “i,” and uses regular electricity to charge up,” he explained while his daughter Kolonahe and pet Pixie patiently waited outside the Waimea post office.
Arquette said it takes about seven hours to charge up the batteries to a full charge, and the vehicle is street legal.
Purchased from a friend of his who owns three of them, Arquette said he took out insurance on the car and just got the license plates. He said that the car even qualifies for a tax credit.
“We figured it out,” he said.
“Based on our electric rates, that comes out to about 50 cents a mile since the car can get about 30 miles on a full charge.” On the street, Arquette said the vehicle can only reach speeds of 25 mph, but it has settings for use on the golf course, too.
Arquette, who owns and operates “Nuts O’ What” snacks, said the car is perfect for doing some of his deliveries in town, and his wife uses it to motor up the road to check on their horses.
“We even pile everybody in on nice nights, and truck into town for dinner,” Arquette said.
“It’s all for fun.”
