I have written several letters to the GI regarding the legal system here in Hawai‘i. In short, it stinks. There is example after example of the insensitivity and outright stupidity of the judges here. A recent story from Hilo reinforces this. A man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. I would say that $1.4 million of ice certainly qualifies. My problem is the judge setting bail at $100,000. If this charge wasn’t so serious it would be laughable. Would getting out of jail on this low bail be a problem for one who imports over a million in ice? I think not. I don’t know whether he is out on bail or not, but I would think he would be a good candidate to disappear. That reminds me of the local judge who gave a man five years probation for molesting his step daughter for several years. We must put a stop to these soft- in-the-head judges.
