John Tanner of Lihu‘e notched a hole-in-one at the Puakea Golf Course on Sunday, August 8.
Tanner used a Wilson Deep Red 7 Wood on the 13th hole (171 yards).
Mokihana Aquatics looking for swimmers
Mokihana Aquatics is having free swim tryouts in September, with open enrollment and no age requirements.
Also, Mokihana Aquatics will have its last after-school Learn to Swim class that goes for three weeks, which will start on August 31.

Custom Limo shuts out Nogi’s
Didi Ibia threw a gem for Custom Limo, who blanked Nogi’s, 12-0 on Tuesday. Jeffrey Iida picked up the loss for Nogi’s.
At the plate, Custom Limo were led by: Zoom Bukoski (3 1B, 2 RBI), Sam Dias (4 1B, 2 RBI), Derek Rapozo (2 1B, 1 RBI), and Ken Caspillo (2 1B, 1 RBI). Caspillo also drove in the winning run. For Nogi’s, four players came up with one hit each.
Rainbow Sports slipped past Hana Hou, 7-5, with help from Lance Nakata, who got the win. Brenn Naka‘ahiki suffered the loss for Hana Hou. Rainbow Sports got heavy hitting from: Royce Ijima (3 1B, 3 RBI), Wendell Nonaka (1 1B, 1 2B), Ross Kagawa (2 1B), Nakata (2 1B), Davis Oshiro (2 1B), Galen Shigeta (2 1B). The winning run was scored on an error. Hana Hou was sparked by Bully Balocan (1 1B, 1 3B, 2 RBI) and Andy Pungan (2 1B).
Hard Knocks KO’d KFD, 14-2, as Glenn Rodero picked up the win and John Blalock got the loss.
Hard Knocks got knocks from: Danny Oliveira (3 1B, 1 RBI), Tuki McCallum (2 1B, 1 RBI), and Rolando Augustin (2 1B, 1 2B). The winning run scored on Rodero’s fielders’ choice.
KFD had four players, who mustered up one hit a piece.
Attention girls soccer players
The Kaua‘i Soccer Club is looking for girls to form a U16-18 and a U12 team for the upcoming Fall HYSA season. Anyone interested can call Kevin at 645-1987 or 823-9805, or just show up at the Wailua Houselots Park at 5:00 p.m., Thursday August 12.
Olympic development youth soccer tryouts
The Hawai‘i Youth Soccer Association (HYSA) announced the dates of the Island District Tryouts for the Olympic Development Program (ODP). For Kaua‘i, the tryouts are from August 14-15 at the Island School field. Times for day one are 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Times for day two are 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Island District Tryouts are the first step in the process of identifying, selecting and developing players to the State Team Pool, Regional Pool and ultimately for some the U.S. National Team program. Players are identified and selected to the program after a series of training sessions in which the player is evaluated on their technique, tactics, fitness & athletic ability, and attitude. Wie’s short game saves her
ERIE, Pa. — Michelle Wie advanced to the second round of match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur, beating Angela Park 1-up Wednesday.
“The long game is important, but I had trouble keeping it in the fairway,” the 14-year-old from Hawaii said. “What won for me today was I made some really great up and downs. “The short game was the difference. Only three words can describe today: nerves of steel.” Wie struggled off the tee in stroke play and tied for 39th among the 64 players who qualified for match play at The Kahkwa Club.
