Hats off to everyone on this island who felt something in their heart, and did something to make a football season become reality for the Kapaa Pop Warner Association! Mel Rapozo brought good news from his Lihu‘e organization Friday as he said Kapa‘a leaders and players were well on their way to being a part of the 2004 Pop Warner fall tackle football season.
Lihu‘e team members were practicing for their season as the final game of the girls 14-and-under softball season was coming to an end with a double-header featuring Hokuala and the Wes Syde Gurls — Ashley Nonaka made a beeline dash from the airport to join Stephanie Kawamura and the rest of the Kapa‘a Na Koa girls (sportsmanship was alive and well at Isenberg!) who cheered both sides in the season finale.
And, if you need to know the numbers, just ask Mindy and Marissa Agena.
Dan Fort made an amazing snag of an infield pop foul (he said he’s never watched a softball game before) as he checked out the action while waiting for his son to finish Pop Warner practice, and A.J. Silva does an amazing job as the Hokuala team manager.
Meanwhile, mahalo to Lei Nakayama for the three apple manju (baked) that just fit in before the start of the Kukui Grove grand reopening program…Ron Wiley did a good job filling the “white” space, and Bruce Smalling and Dickie Chang were all over the place with the “Wala‘au” show.
