Wallet returned by mail
My wallet went missing around July 17, and I thought it had been stolen. Wrong. Last week it arrived in my post office box!
The envelope said “found loose in mail.” I paid $2.60 in postage and got my wallet back.
Behold, the $40 cash was all there, my credit card, and my treasured library card.
So, heartfelt thanks goes to the people of the post office and the person who found my wallet, for their honesty. It passed through many Kauaian and Oahuan hands to get back to me. I am grateful.
And, to make it even better, if anyone finds a purse or a wallet, could you call the person right away so she does not don’t cancel her checks and credit cards like I did?
Lucky we live on this Hawaiian island.

Chicken killings
I would like to applaud the fact that The Garden Island does such a great job in educating the people of Kaua‘i with great articles and wise insight.
I am writing to you because an issue has arisen that will affect everyone in the islands.
It has come to my attention that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is running a campaign against KFC.
This will impact the store in Lihu‘e, as well as the ones on the Mainland and throughout Hawai‘i.
Newspapers around the world have printed articles about PETA’s recent undercover investigation of a KFC slaughterhouse run by the second-largest chicken company in the United States.
Workers were filmed stomping on birds, kicking them, and slamming them against floors and walls.
They also ripped off chickens’ beaks, twisted off their heads, spat tobacco into their eyes and mouths, spray-painted their faces, and tied their legs together for laughs. The ironic thing is that this investigation was conducted at the same location that was named KFC’s “Supplier of the Year” during an earlier award ceremony.
Please urge your readers to educate themselves on this matter by visiting KentuckyFriedCruelty.com. Kaua‘i is known for its aloha, and to think that such a company with such a horrible background is operating here unhindered is a shame to all we believe in. Reform is urgently needed, and the best thing that people can do to help these abused birds (and their own health) is to stop supporting KFC.
