Who John Kerry is before the Democratic Convention started is listed in the July 24 TGI. The writer did this by compiling a “best of” list from the various right wing e-mails and Web sites available. There is a reason why no legitimate sources are including in this media. It is because there are no legitimate sources. I really enjoyed the part where Mrs. Kerry’s first husband was referred to simply as a “rich man.” If Mr. Oswald had named him as Republican Senator John Heinz, then he would have had the awkward duty of explaining the transformation of a good fortune to a evil fortune to so many of us who are easily confused.
The less-amusing part was the denigration of John Kerry’s heroism in Vietnam. The left has a parallel attempt to declare President Bush AWOL in 1971-72. Neither charge stands up against close scrutiny. Both charges are reliant on innuendo, and have been attempted in the previous campaigns against both men. There is another reason to stop this nonsense. As a veteran from 1969 to 1973, I know how young men during that time made choices, and did what they had to do, to survive and to help others survive, whether they were “in country” or not. Judging those actions 35 years later is offensive. Judging them now, if you didn’t face it then, is very offensive. Judging them based on innuendo is sickening.
