More on 9/11
Andy Bushnell, in his recent letter to The Forum (7/119/04), discusses Michael Moore’s film “Fahrenheit 9/11” and acknowledges, among other things, that it may not have been “fair and balanced” — a reasonable assumption! He then goes on to describe Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingrahm as “right-wing propagandists.”
At this point, I offer the following so that our readers have a better understanding as to the definition of the word “propaganda” — “any systematic, widespread dissemination or promotion of particular ideas, doctrines, practices, etc. to further one’s own cause or to damage an opposing one,” (Webster’s New World Dictionary, Third College Edition, 1988)
Thus, “propaganda” is a two-edged sword; what is “propaganda” to one may not be to another. It all depends on which side of the fence one may be standing!
