Cold Stone Creamery stores in Hawai‘i are helping raise funds for Special Olympics Hawaii during July, National Ice Cream Month.
A portion of all ice cream and cake sales are donated to the organization.
Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Stop by both Cold Stone Creamery locations (at Kukui Grove Shopping Center and Kaua‘i Village Shopping Center) Thursday, July 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. for the “World’s Largest Ice Cream Cake Social.” Guests will be treated to a free slice of ice cream cake and will be encouraged to make a donation to Special Olympics Hawaii.
The ice cream cake consists of layers of devil’s food cake, sweet cream ice cream, Oreo cookies and chocolate shavings wrapped in a rich chocolate ganache.
During July, for a $1 donation, ice cream lovers can show their support for the organization by inscribing their name on a Special Olympics insignia that will be posted on the store walls through the end of the month.
Cold Stone Creamery will donate star proceeds, all customer donations and a portion of sales generated during July to Special Olympics Hawaii. Cold Stone Creamery is an independently-owned franchise system based in Scottsdale, Ariz. Its secret recipe ice cream is made fresh daily in each store, then customized by combining candy, fruit and other “mix-ins” on a frozen granite stone.
On Kaua‘i, there are two locations, in Lihu‘e at Kukui Grove Center, and in Kapa‘a at Kaua‘i Village Shopping Center. Owners Don and Barbie Taylor have plans to open a third, South Shore location soon.
Cold Stone Creamery has more than 700 stores operating in the U.S.
and Caribbean with plans to establish 1,000 stores by the end of 2004.
