In a year when religious themes and the subject of “God” have caught the attention of the public, Jehovah’s Witnesses will present a series of more than 200 conventions in the United States that will center on the theme “Walk with God.” The entire program will be based on Scriptures and will offer encouragement to sincere individuals who are troubled by recent world events and declining moral values, organizers said.
In Kaua‘i, a three-day event will take place at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e starting today, Friday, July 16 and through Sunday, July 18.
“In view of the current spotlight on the role of religion in world affairs, the Witnesses will make clear to all in attendance how true Christians should conduct themselves in a world of changing values,” organizers said.
It is estimated that 1,000 people of all ages, races and backgrounds will hear talks and interviews that will encourage all to desire to walk with God, the added.
“This year’s program will feature important information for families,” stated Carl Rosetti, a Kaua‘i-based convention coordinator.
“We invite people of all faiths, including those with no religious affiliation, to attend this convention and to listen to what the Bible says about meeting life’s challenges, marriage, raising children and living according to God’s standards. All of us are deeply affected by the events of our time, and we do need guidance.” The first day of the convention will feature a keynote address, “Walk with God in Turbulent Times.” The second day will feature a talk “Walking with Jehovah ‘By Appointment’” followed by an immersion ceremony. The final talk that day will be “Keep on the Watch – The Hour of Judgment has Drawn Near,” which will scrutinize current events in the light of the Bible and reveal their meanings.
The third day will feature an enactment of Christian activity in the First century, with participants in period dress.
“This annual convention is always an encouraging event,” stated Bill Driver, a Witness who takes the lead in coordinating activities for all eight Kaua‘i congregations and 12 Maui congregations.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are active in 235 lands, with more than 6.4 million worldwide.
The convention is open to the public, with sessions starting at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.
Admission is free and no collections will be taken.
