LIHUE – Proving that the best laid plans sometimes do come to fruition, Tom Brown began his early retirement this week after selling Ink Spot Printing to his longtime manager Marynel Valenzuela. Brown owned the printing company, a popular fixture on Rice Street, for 14 years.
“I’m really glad to be able to turn over the reigns to Marynel and give her and her husband Rommel a chance to run a successful business,” Brown said. He intimated he’s also glad to now have a more flexible schedule for playing golf.
On Brown’s last offical day at Ink Spot, a steady stream of customers and friends poured into the shop, many bearing flower leis and food.
The party unofficially carried over to the next day when Brown was tying up some loose ends as more people dropped by to give the printer their good wishes.
Brown was in the printing industry for 33 years and owned a print shop in California before moving to Kaua‘i 16 years ago.
He and his wife Pam plan to stay on Kaua‘i.
