“It should be a pretty show,” said Mark Fritzen, the pyrotechnic operator for the Kaua‘i Hospice “Concert in the Sky” that will be held on Sunday at Vidinha Stadium.
The pyrotechnic spectacular is one of the top notch shows in the country, Fritzen said. It utilizes a CD of music which triggers the firing of the various fireworks using a computer. Fritzen has done pyrotechnic shows for Ala Moana on O‘ahu, and the Wailea on Maui. The measure of precision is such that Fritzen knows that Sunday’s show will last 18 minutes and 37 seconds.
“We were real lucky,” he said. “We got the shipment on Wednesday, and Thursday they (tugboat operators) went on strike.”
New for this year’s show is a Bozo the Clown display which features a happy face with red fringe (hair), and spectators are urged to look for this new addition.
“The show is going to be good. They increased the number of five-inch shells from 13 last year to 52 for this year.
Those five-inch shells make the show — it’s going to be very pretty!” Fritzen said.
