Douglas Sears is the new general manager of the Hyatt Regency Kauai. Sears is taking over from Jerry Gibson, who is on his way to becoming the general manager for the Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson, Nevada.

Sears is taking over from Jerry Gibson, who is on his way to becoming the general manager for the Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson, Nevada.
He comes to Kaua‘i from the Grand Hyatt Seattle, where he served as the opening general manager for the 425-room luxury hotel, beginning in 2001.
Sears served as president of the Seattle Hotel Association, and was on the Board of Directors, Seattle Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Seattle Sports Commission.
He was general manager from May 1995 – March 2001 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman on Seven Mile Beach in the British West Indies.
From 1993 – May 1995 he was general manager of the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables in Coral Gables, Florida. From April 1992 – August 1993 Sears was general manager of the Hyatt Rickeys and Hyatt Palo Alto in Palo Alto, Calif.
His experience in the Hawai‘i visitor industry included a regional executive position at the Hyatt Regency Waikoloa from April 1988 – April 1992, and positions at the Hyatt Regency Maui from July 1985 – August 1986, and at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki from April 1984 – July 1985.
Sears and his wife Adeline have a son, Douglas, who was born in 2000. His hobbies are golf, running, travel and family time.
Gibson served as president of the state and local branches of the Hawaii Hotel Association, and was a founding board member for the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative. He is currently president elect for the Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau, and is president of the Poipu Beach Resort Association. He also serves as a Director for the Hawaii Visitor’s Bureau and the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce.
