LIHU‘E — Shana Tafiti of Koloa allowed just three hits against Hokuala of Lihu‘e, but Hokuala capitalized on the fledgling team to take a 17-1 contest while over in Kapa‘a, West Kaua‘i hurler Kanoe Carveiro picked up the 10-8 victory on the mound. Dusty Farias chalked up a win in her debut on the mound for Hokuala, allowing a run, a hit, and striking out two while walking three. Jumping out to an 8-run opening frame, Hokuala was led by Brittany Brackenridge who finished with four RBI in her 1-for-2 showing, scoring twice while stealing a bag.
Thirdbase Jaezelle Balilea followed with a two-RBI hit, scoring twice, and stealing a base.
Darci Murata rounded out the Hokuala bats with a two-RBI bang in her sole appearance in the box before the contest was called in the third inning on the 15-run mercy ruling. Shana Tafiti suffered the Koloa loss on the mound, but not before smacking an RBI triple that scored Moki Tauina, Koloa’s only score.
Carveiro went the distance for West Kaua‘i, hurling six frames and allowing eight runs on six Kapa‘a hits while walking four and fanning six batters.
Kapa‘a Na Koa started Stephanie Kawamura who went four and a half innings before being relieved by Le‘a Tamura who finished the contest, allowing four runs on no hits and walking three with two strikeouts.
Kawamura allowed six runs on five West Kaua‘i hits while walking three and striking out three.
Four teams make up the summer league’s 14 Under girls softball. Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The 18 Under program plays Wednesday night games with a double-header on Saturdays. Their program starts on Saturday at the Kekaha Field with the first pitch of a double-header going off at 10 a.m.
