David L. Sparks
David L. “Sparky” Sparks, a Kaua‘i resident since the early 70s, died after a short battle with cancer with his family at his side in Kilauea on June 20, 2004, at the age of 58.
Born in Orlando, Fla., on March 3, 1946, and raised in Iowa, he was the son of the late Darrell and Celeste (Moulds) Sparks. After spending time in the U.S. Navy, he made Hawai‘i his home. Many of Kaua‘i’s North Shore children would remember “Sparky” for his 13 years, as a referee for both AYSO and HYSA soccer organizations.
He is co-founder of Midpac Online Communications and an electrician by trade. “He was an avid reader, enjoyed and appreciated hiking, researching genealogies and breeding birds, particularly his love birds,” said his family. “Dave was a true friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by a son and daughter, Sebastian and Naomi Sparrowhawk, two sisters: Linda (Gregg) Taylor of Minneapolis and Janelle Sparks of Tucson and one brother: Dale (Wendy) Sparks of Phoenix; an uncle: James (Pansy) Moulds of Hilo.
Friends and family will gather at Anini Beach Park on Friday, June 25, from 3 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to Kauai Hospice.
Guadalupe Acoba Acupan
Guadalupe Acoba Acupan of Lihu‘e, died June 20, 2004, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 95.
A homemaker, she was born Dec. 9, 1908, in the Philippines.
She is survived by three daughters: Dominga Robles, Anastacia (Severino) Madriaga, and Maria Cacal; four sons: Manuel (Carlina) Acupan, Carlos (Jacinta) Acupan, Domingo (Corazon) Acupan and Andres (Carlina) Acupan; 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Services are schdeuled for Saturday, July 10, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kapaia. Visitation wil begin at 8 a.m. with Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
