WAIMEA — It’s been a while since the Kalawai Cardinals took home the mustang championship, in fact, it’s been a long 13 years, but all that came to a screeching halt yesterday at the Waimea Ballpark, as the Cardinals edged a tough Kekaha Angels squad, 4-3 to win the mustang title of the West Kaua‘i Baseball League.
The game went down to the wire, just like their previous contests. The Angels drew first blood in the top of the third inning with a 1-0 lead, but the Cardinals answered back with two runs to take a 2-1 lead in their half of the third.
The lead eventually swung back to Kekaha, as they scored two runs of their own to take a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, when the Kalawai comeback was staged for the 4-3 championship win.
