This was definitely no minor feat. The Kawaihau Community Little League minors squad came so close to a major accomplishment, as they fell to Kainalu of O‘ahu, 9-12 on June 14 for a chance to advance to the Little League district tournament.
Kainalu jumped ahead early in the fourth inning with an 11-2 lead. Kawaihau fought back hard and never gave up, as they scratched back to make the game close.
Leading Kawaihau on the mound were Bronson Aiwohi with two strikeouts and Jacob Rapozo with three strikeouts. Centerfielder Jakey Alves came up big with the glove as he managed to catch two fly balls. At the plate, Kawaihau was led by Geordan Gray (single), Austin Thronas (single), Alves (two singles), Conner Chandler (two singles), Jacob Rapozo (two singles, one RBI), Kekoa Alfiler (two singles, one RBI), Aiwohi (three singles, three RBI), Brentten Rapozo (one single, one double), Vincent Simon (one double, one RBI), and Earl Thronas (two singles, one triple, and one RBI).
Then on June 13, Kawaihau slipped past Kailua “A” 9-2. Thronas and Brentten Rapozo performed well as pitcher and catcher as Thronas K’d nine batters, while Rapozo had a perfect catcher’s game with no pass balls or stolen bases against him. Austin Thronas brought his glove out to play and notched a beautiful pop fly catch in rightfield. Rashan Baliaris, Alfiler, Gray, Austin Thronas, and Jesselyn Aki each hit a single. Brentten Rapozo and Wakuta both got a single and an RBI. Alves hit a single, double, and two RBI. Earl Thronas slapped three singles and two RBI.
