Reichle, Zalopany, Oketani on all-star squads
Sixty-six senior players from around the state are playing in the SportStan Aloha Sugar Mill Baseball Classic today at 3 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
Kaua‘i’s Alec Reichle is a probable starting pitcher in the annual duel between the Aloha Stars and the Hawaiian Stars. Waimea’s Leonard Zalopany Jr. was selected as the starting thirdbaseman for the Hawaiian Stars squad. Kaua‘i’s Jake Oketani was also named to the Hawaiian Stars team as a reserve.
Williams sisters ousted at French
PARIS — Serena and Venus Williams both lost in the French Open quarterfinals Tuesday, leaving this most surprising of majors with 2001 champion Jennifer Capriati and three women who had a combined total of one previous Grand Slam semifinal appearance.
Arakawa, Ikehara, and Mendonca win senior golf tourney
The Wailua Senior Golf Club held its second quarterly tournament at Wailua Golf Course on May 29. Masa Arakawa came away with the top prize in the “A” Flight with a 65. The “B” Flight winner was Larry Mandonca, who shot a 66. Dennis Ikehara claimed the top spot with a 68 in the “C” Flight. A prize for closest to the hole was awarded to Bob Hiraoka for his shot on the 17th hole.

Walton scores 33
In one of the most impressive performances of the season, Basil Walton blasted away for 33 points for Lihu‘e Breakaway for a 69-22 win over Lihu‘e on Fire at Kilauea Gym on Monday (BU14). Clifton Asuncion and Eric Peters each scored seven points for their on Fire squad. The Lihu‘e Comet’s Lehua McCabe exploded for 16 points to lead her team over the Kanu Hot Shots, 40-6 (GU12). Sanoe Kellinoi led the Hot Shots with five points. Westside Hornet II’s Britney Yadao-Lanning put up eight points to lead her team over the Kaumakani Supersonics, 25-14 (GU14) Monday at Kalaheo Gym. Sera Pascual, Jayme Jacinto, and Joanna Andres scored four points each for the Supersonics. The Kalaheo Pistons used nine points from Tyrus Ceria-Lux and Devin Tavana to beat the Westside Hornets, 31-25 (BU14). Braxton Garma netted 10 points for the Hornets. The Westside Hornet’s second girl’s 14-and-under squad also won behind nine points from Josey Jacinto, 29-17 over the Kaua‘i Fire Raiders. Kori Masuda notched six points for the Fire Raiders.
