Kaua‘i’s Wise medals for New Mexico State
Former Kaua‘i High School golf standout Lehua Wise, now a freshman at New Mexico State took medalist honors in the Sun Belt Conference Golf Championships in April.
She shot six-over-par 222 over the Bluewater Bay Golf Course in Florida. Wise parred the first playoff hole to beat University of Denver’s Alyssa Otero in a sudden-death playoff.
However, Wise’s team didn’t do as well, losing a sudden-death playoff against Denver for the team title after both teams recorded 34-over-par 898 totals for the three round event.
Latif, Barrett fall in state tennis semis
Kaua‘i’s last hope to win a state title in the 2004 HHSAA/Carlsmith Ball State Tennis Championships fell short in the semi-finals.
Kula’s Alex Latif and Kyle Barrett were upended by top-seeded Michael Azuma and Ryan Laws of Punahou 6-2, 6-0 in boys doubles action.
On Saturday, the Kula duo retired in the third place match to Iolani’s Torin Ching and Jon Okada.
Polo Kaua‘i Style exhibit opens
Come see the elite history of the Kaua‘i Polo Club as the “Polo Kaua‘i Style” exhibit opens in the Senda Gallery at the Kaua‘i Museum on May 21 through Jan. 14.
On Saturday, June 5 at 10 a.m., the museum will host a talk story panel with some of the original builders of the Kaua‘i Polo Club.
BYUH women win NCAA II tennis title
The Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i women’s tennis team defeated third-ranked Lynn yesterday, 5-1, to win the NCAA II championship.
The title is the third consecutive for the Seasiders and the seventh national championship in the last eight years for the program.
