With the Hershey State Track Meet coming up in June, Kaua’i’s best came together for the 2004 Age Group Track Meet held on April 24-25 at Vidinha Stadium.
Each division from ages 9-14 named their outstanding athletes. In the 9-10 boys division, Mikeo Rita of Kalaheo School, who won the softball throw and the 50 meter dash, was the outstanding performer for his age group.
On the girls side, Wilcox School’s Kelsey Cadiente got outstanding honors for the girls 9-10 division. Cadiente won the standing broad jump, along with the 50 and 100 meter dashes. For the 11-12 boys, Randall Alford of Kapa’a Middle School took top honors for his age group.
Alford won the 200 meter run, the 100 meter dash, and the 400 meter dash. Meanwhile, Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School’s Kathleen Cadiente was the girls top performer for the 11-12 division. Cadiente claimed the standing broad jump, the 200 meter dash, and the 100 meter dash.
In the 13-14 boys division, Adam Gusman of Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School was the outstanding performer for his group. Gusman took the 800 meter run and finished fourth in the softball throw.
Tiffany Ikeda-Simao, also from Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School beat out all the other competitors in the girls 13-14 division to take top honors. Ikeda-Simao won the standing broad jump, the 200 meter run, and the 100 meter dash. Other notable performers included, Donovan Harrison from Wilcox Elementary School, who won the standing broad jump for the 9-10 year old division. In the 9-10 girls division, Saryna Garcia of Wilcox Elementary School took home top honors for the softball throw. For the boys 9-10, 100 meter dash, Cameron Twiggs of Kalaheo Elementary School out ran the competition to win the event.
Pierce Murphy of Kilauea Elementary School won the 400 meter run for the boys 9-10 division. Meanwhile, Ele’ele’s Jayme Jacinto won the girls 400 meter run and the 200 meter run for the 9-10 division. The 200 meter run for the boys 9-10 division was captured by Ele’ele’s Kenneth Tacazon.
In the 4×100 relay races, Wilcox Elementary School won the boys division and Kekaha School took the girls division. For the 11-12 year olds, the boys standing broad jump went to Ele’ele’s Nelson Acosta. The 11-12 softball throw was all Waimea Canyon School, as Matthew Viescas and Elisha Nabeshima won their divisions.
The 800 meter run for the boys 11-12 year old division was won by Scot Sasan of Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School and Sarah Faraola from Island School won the girls 800 meter run.
In the 4×100 relays, Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School won both the girls and boys divisions. Aric Cansino also from Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School won the 13-14 year old division for the boys standing broad jump.
In the softball throw competitions, it was Brandon Hashimoto of Waimea Canyon School and Krystal Ijima of Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School who both won their divisions.
Waimea High School’s Layne Fernandez took home the 13-14 year old 200 meter run title. Waimea Canyon School’s Tatum Gonsalves won the 800 meter run and the 400 meter run for the girls 13-14 year old division. In the 4×100 relay races, Waimea Canyon School won the boys division and Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School took home the girls title. The 100 meter dash for the boys 13-14 year old division was won by Layne Fernandez.
