April 28 deadline coming soon
Entry deadline for the U.S. Open Local Qualifiers is April 28, and golfers with a Handicap Index of 1.4 or below are qualified to enter any of the U.S. Open Qualifiers.
This is the first time in history that Hawai‘i will hold three U.S. Open Local Qualifiers in the state as well as the first time a U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier will be played in Hawai‘i thereby eliminating the need for golfers having to fly to the mainland for qualifying matches.
The Kaua‘i U.S. Open Local Qualifier will be played on May 18 at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course with other qualifiers scheduled for May 15 at the Kaanapali Golf Course on Maui, and on May 20 at the Turtle Bay Resort on O‘ahu.
The U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier will be played on June 7 at the Turtle Bay Resort.
Entry forms are available online at usga.org, or by contacting the HSGA office at (808) 589-2909.
Kaua‘i tennis teams off to Kona
The Kaua‘i Tennis Senior League wrapped up its 2004 season with teams advancing to the Senior Sectionals that will be held in Kona on July 23-25.
Ann Kane captains the Kupuna Blue 3.0 that will join the Hanapepe Youth Group 3.0 Men captained by Glen Yamamoto.
There has been no 3.0 senior men’s team declared the winner, but the other team in that category has declined to advance no matter the season outcome.
Heidi Read leads the Senior Moments 3.5 team with Bill Lore team 3.5 Men, Danny Crain’s The Moment 4.0 Men, and Verlene Dawson’s Nifty Fifty Plus 4.0 women’s team rounding out the Kaua‘i delegation.
The sectionals in Kona gives teams an opportunity to advance to the Nationals in Palm Springs, California, or Tucson, AZ in October.
