LIHU‘E – Kapa‘a’s Waika Oliver got to play in a KIF season game after being injured in a pre-season game and spending the season recovering.
Waimea upgraded two JV players, Seneca Burley and Scott Martin, who turned in exceptional play Wednesday night, but when the eighty minutes had lapsed, the contest that was called earlier in the season due to lightning saw the scoreboard idle at 0-0.
Waimea needed a win to force a playoff with Kaua‘i for the boys’ KIF title and a berth in the HHSAA state championships, but that was not to be as Kapa‘a turned on the offensive effort in the second half behind key play from defender Waylen Sadang, midfielder Ryan Cram, and front-liner Billy Toy who peppered the goalmouth giving Waimea goalie Justin Estes a workout in the chilly wind.
Key to Waimea stopping the Warrior offense was midfielder Kenny Estes whose efforts earned him a yellow card with less than two minutes remaining in the game as the Menehune stepped up the pace in an effort at breaking the 0-0 deadlock.
