LIHU’E — Kalaheo and Makaweli ran out of time as they ended their weekend outing in a 3-3 tie while Kapa’a churned a dozen runs on 14 hits to notch their first win of the season against Makaweli, 12-5.
Hanapepe jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings against the Kaneshiro Farmers who answered late in the game, driving a run in the fifth, and a pair in the eighth frames before time ran out on the contest.
Dean Nonaka led the Rivermen with a 2-for-5 showing in the box while Kelly Robinson, 0-for-4, was credited with an RBI.
Pitcher Tyrus Matsumoto was 1-for-3, and Levi Maeda scored twice for Hanapepe, the other run going to Lenny Nitta who finished 1-for-3.
Pitching duties were shared between Garen Itamura, Jake Oketani, and Kaina McCallum for Kalaheo.
Matsumoto went the distance for Hanapepe with a dozen whiffs while alloowing three runs on five hits with a pair of walks allowed.
Kapa’a jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first two innings, and following a 3-run response in the third inning by Makaweli, exploded for five runs in the seventh enroute to a 12-5 win in the second outing of the day.
Cy Tamura (2-5), Ikaika Pezario (2-4), Sean Hiranaka (2-6), and Evan Gibson (2-4) each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Kapa’a offensive showing.
Sean Jardin led Makaweli with four runs driven in on two hits, each one a two-bagger.
Jason Nakata suffered the loss for Makaweli with ten runs allowed on 13 hits while striking out seven and walking two.
Owen Koishigawa went the distance for Kapa’a with five runs allowed on ten hits while striking out eight and walking three.
