LAIE — Brigham Young University-Hawai’i junior forward Jake Chrisman and sophomore guard Shawn Opunui have been named the Pacific West Conference Co-Players of the Week for their performances in the opening games of the Hawai’i Surf ‘N Slam Tournament.
It is the second Player of the Week honor for both players.
Chrisman, from Provo, Utah, popped in a career-high 31 points to lead the Seasiders to a second-round win over Northern Illinois on Saturday after a 20-point performance in
BYU-Hawai’i’s opening win over Baylor on Friday.
Chrisman, currently second in the Pac West in both scoring (21.3 ppg) and field goal percentage (57.6), shot 57.9 percent from the field for the week and added ten rebounds, three assists, and one blocked shot in the two games.
Opunui, from Orem, Utah, also notched a career-high 34 points in the win over Baylor. He scored 16 against Northern Illinois and hit all 15 of his free throw attempts in two games giving him 19 in a row over three games.
The 34 points tie Opunui for the second highest single-game total in the history of the tournament. He nailed six of eight three-pointers against Baylor.
