KALAHEO — “We’re still not (intact),” Lihu‘e Comets Under 14 Girls basketball coach Billy Ramos commented following their 29-22 loss at the hands of In Yo’ Face Wednesday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The second game was definitely in the favor of the Westside Hornets II 31-21 as a casualty and abscense left the Westside Hornets I with only “half of the twin towers.”
Ramos’ comments saw Sanoe Keliinoe and Rachel Hamamura on the floor, but in the abscense of both Kathleen and Kelsie Cadiente, the Comets were held to just seven points in the first half, Keliinoe and Hamamura combining for 11 second-half points in the Comets’ loss.
The Comets rallied for a sixth period 10-4 run against the Face, but drew as close as five points before being shut down 29-22.
Keliinoe finished with seven points to lead the Comets, Hamaura adding five second half points in the loss. Lauren James, Dolly Cubangbang, and Kira Taylan each tucked in three points, James and Taylan firing in the first half, and a pair by Tristan Rosare rounded out the Lihu‘e scoring.
Jondi Das came up with a game-high eight points to lead In Yo’ Face with Kalia Mayer and Ashlyn Ubongen each adding four points apiece. Brandi Gomes and Shelcie Paozo-Dela Cruz finished with three points each, Nicole Fujimoto had a pair, and a digit from Tiffany Ikeda-Simao rounded out that game.
With Cheri Kua hobbling on crutches, and Kierra Barba not on the bench, the inside game disappeared as the Westside Hornets relied on Brytney Lanning to carry the post chores.
Lanning led the effort with an eight-point showing in the loss with Sasha Kaohi and Victoria Espino each adding four, Espino firing a trey in the opening frame. Jondelle Aceret Ipac fired a trey in the final frame, and a pair by Jamie Horikawa rounded out the scoring.
Tatum Gonsalves and Natalie Mata combined for 17 points to lead the Westside Hornets II in their 31-21 win, Gonsalves topping the roster with nine points.
Krytle Manguba-Glover added six points, Rasha Banasihan fired an opening frame trey, and a pair by Sheana Mata and Kolonahe Arquette rounded out the win.
