Former Kaua‘i mayor Maryanne Kusaka, a Republican, is expected to announce this Sunday, Nov. 9, whether she will run against state Sen. Gary Hooser, D-Kaua‘i-Ni‘ihau, in the 2004 election.

Hooser is a first-term state senator, and represents all of Kaua‘i County.

Kusaka will hold a fund-raiser Sunday at the Kilohana carriage house in Puhi. Print advertisements paid for by the Friends of Maryanne Kusaka organization are announcing the event. Wallace Rezentes Sr., former administrative assistant to Kusaka during her years as mayor, is treasurer of the group.
